Travel to Jaipur

Travel to JaipurJaipur, fondly known as the 'Pink City' because of its legacy of pink sandstone buildings is the capital city of Rajasthan- the land of the warrior Rajputs. Known as the Gateway of Rajasthan, Jaipur's magnificent forts and palaces, the golden sands and its rich cultural heritage coupled with warm welcoming people are just some of the reasons why you should travel to Jaipur.

Built on a dry lakebed and nestled among the Aravalli Hills, Jaipur is a starting point for many tourists visiting the state of Rajasthan. Famous for its art and crafts, especially the craft of Bandhani that is a tie - and -dye method, Jaipur is a great place to shop for jewelry, paintings, furniture and other handicraft items.

Some of the major tourist attractions of Jaipur are:

Amber Fort
The fort palace of Amber was commissioned in 1592 by Man Singh I and completed by his descendant Jai Singh I, years later. A mesmerizing blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture, the fort- palace is divided into different sections. Amber Fort houses a Kali temple featuring beautiful repoussé (raised relief) work. There is also the amazing Sheesh Mahal, a tiny pitch-black room with mirrors, where the illuminating light of a single candle would the whole rooms full of twinkling stars.

City Palace
One of the palaces of Jaipur, housing a great museum with a superb collection of Rajasthani costumes and the armoury of Mughals and Rajputs, including jewelled swords, City Palace is a breathtakingly beautiful, what with its carved arches, ornate grey-white marble columns and series of gardens and courtyards

Jantar Mantar
The royal observatory of Jaipur is the largest stone observatory of its kind in the world. Situated near the entrance gate of City Palace in Jaipur; it was built by Sawai Jai Singh. It is a compelling collection of sculptures, especially the Brihat Samrat Yantra sundial.

Hawa Mahal
As the name suggests, it is the Palace of Winds because of the presence of a huge number of windows. The pink sandstone building was built for the female royal members so that they could look at the royal processions from the windows without being seen.

If you plan to travel to Jaipur, it is better to have prior information about Jaipur.
