Travel to Bharatpur to visit the famous Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary also known as the Keoladeo Ghana National Park. Located on the Agra and Bharatpur highway, it is a part of the northwestern frontier of Rajasthan. The name 'Keoladeo' is named after a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and the term Ghana is added as a suffix as the word 'Ghana' implies dense and thick forests. The Maharaja of Bharatpur created this bird sanctuary in 1890. The distinct feature of this bird sanctuary is a large number of marshes and lakes, which you can see during your Bharatpur travel itinerary. This sanctuary was developed on a large scale by the sincere efforts of the renowned ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali and given the status of a national park in March 1982. In 1985, UNESCO declared Bharatpur as a World Heritage Site.
