Travel to Mount Abu Rajasthan - India


A travel to Rajasthan is incomplete without a visit to Mount Abu. A hill station in the desert state of Rajasthan. Sounds incredible. But not only that. It is also famous for housing the Jain temples of Dilwara. The adherents of the Jains from all across India travel to Rajasthan to visit the Dilwara temples. Located at a height of about 4,000ft, Mount Abu (literally "hill of wisdom") is the only hill station of the desert state of Rajasthan. Apart from being the hot destination for the holidaymakers particularly the honeymooners, the site is more famous for being one of the most popular Jain pilgrimage sites. It is home to the Dilwara group of temples, among the finest examples of Jain architecture in India, dating from the 11th century AD. the town is also a center of great attraction for the Brahma Kumaris (children of Brahma), a non-denominational spiritual sect founded in 1937.

Dilwara Temples: Dilwara group of temples is one of the finest specimens of Jaina architecture in India. Noted for their sheer aesthetic splendor, they were built by the famous Solanki Dynasty of Gujarat and attract thousand of devotees throughout the year. The oldest of the group is Vimala Vasahi, built in 1031 A.D. and dedicated to Adinath, the first Jaina Tirthankara (ford makers). It is named after the minister of the Solanki Dynasty, who funded its construction. Another important shrine is Neminath temple was built in 1231 A.D. and is more detailed.

Nakki Lake: Situated in the heart of Mount Abu town, the beautiful Nakki Lake is steeped in legends. Tradition has it that the lake was formed by the gods who dug the lakebed using their fingernails (nakh). As a result it was named so. It is difficult to convey the scale and grandeur of Nakki Lake through words alone. You really need to go there. Set in the picturesquely surroundings and surrounded by the hills on all sides, the lake has several islets which you can reach on hired boats. Adding to the beauty of the lake are the rock formations around it. These rock formations at Nakki Lake have been appropriately named Nun Rock, Toad Rock, Camel Rock and Nandi Rock due to their resemblance to these figures. Climbers flock to this lake to climb these impressive rock formations through the wooded forests.
